Japan Invades Manchuria: 1931
The Depression of 1929 affected the entire world, including Japan. As Japan was crumbling economically, the people of Japan looked to the army to find a solution to the Depression. Army officials of the Japanese army determined the only solution was to expand their colonies and create a larger network for Japanese industries. Their next, and most obvious step to achieving this was to invade Manchuria, a rich land of resources, in nearby China.
An explosion on the South Manchuria Railway gave army officials the excuse to invade nearby town of Manchuria, Shenyang. Initially, Japan withdrew from China in compliance with the Chinese government, but shortly after, they launched a full-scale invasion on Manchuria, and by the end of 1931, Japanese forces occupied the entire province.
