Midway Island: Dec. 7, 1941
The first attack of Midway Island was a small land and sea battle of World War II. The Attack on Midway Island marks the first day of the Pacific War, occurring the same day as the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1914. Two Japanese destroyers bombarded Midway and successfully damaged the U.S. Marine base before being forced to flee by American forces. This was the first battle the Americans won in World War II.
